1. Notification It is a long-standing, statewide practice to notify your superintendent of your intention to homeschool by day one of the start of your district’s new school year. If your child is not enrolled in the district school, or your Superintendent has not been notified that you will be homeschooling, you may be liable under truancy laws. Here are some scenarios: If you are moving here from another State and were homeschooling in that state, you'll be notifying the district in Ohio, by day one of the new school year. The school districts are not entitled to know your whereabouts. You do not need to submit the assessment materials our statutes outline. If you are moving here from another State and were not homeschooling in that state, you'll be notifying the district in Ohio, by day one of the new school year. If you are moving within Ohio during the school year or during the summer, you only need to notify to the new district by day one of the new school year. As courtesy, you can inform the former district that you have moved, though it is not necessary. The school districts are not entitled to know your whereabouts. If you are removing your student from a school in the summer you'll be notifying the district by day one of the new school year. If you are removing your student during the school year, you can remove your student immediately, send your letter of notification the day you remove your student. It is not necessary that parents wait to be notified by Superintendent that their child has been excused from compulsory attendance before beginning home education.
